Product Overview
The AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) is a critical electrical component that stabilizes generator output voltage. In a single-phase generator, the AVR continuously monitors output fluctuation and adjusts excitation to maintain consistent voltage under changing load conditions. A high-quality AVR ensures smoother power delivery, protects electrical equipment, and improves overall generator performance.
For service safety, always disconnect the generator, turn OFF the engine, and discharge capacitors before touching any AVR wiring.

An AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) is an electronic module that keeps a generator’s output voltage stable.
In a single-phase generator, the AVR constantly “looks at” the output voltage and adjusts the excitation current to the alternator field. When the load changes, the AVR reacts and corrects the voltage back toward a preset level.
Without an AVR, voltage would rise and fall much more sharply whenever equipment is plugged in, started, or switched off.

How the AVR Works Inside a Single-Phase Generator
Inside a typical single-phase generator, the AVR is connected to two key areas:
-
1.Voltage sensing – The AVR measures the generator output (often from the stator winding).
-
2.Excitation control – Based on what it senses, the AVR regulates the DC excitation sent to the rotor field winding.
The basic working loop is:
-
Load increases → voltage tends to drop
-
AVR senses the drop → increases excitation
-
Stronger magnetic field → output voltage rises back up
And the reverse happens when load decreases.
This closed-loop control helps keep the outlet voltage within an acceptable range for tools, appliances, and electronics.
